The Next Ride: Sunday July 24th

Shoreham to Steyning via Lancing College and nature reserve

This ride has been planned by Dave to coincide with the London Clarion’s trip to Lancing College. We will hopefully see them at some point, although as their ride is very long, it’s difficult to pinpoint when or where!

The route starts at the old toll bridge and then ascends behind the college on a bridleway to the Bostal road and down to Steyning. Dave says: “I have shown two easterly escape routes down to Coombes Road using South Downs Way and bridleway to Coombes Farm. I have shown no route back from Steyning as this could be open to discussion and my brief was to lead the route along the bridleway!”

Click here for a map of the route. The main route is shown in green and the “escape routes” in orange and blue.

Start at: East end of the Shoreham toll bridge at 10:30am.
Getting there: 10:00 train from Brighton to Shoreham (Southampton train) and proceed to the toll bridge. Dave is riding from Brighton to Shoreham, but for those taking the train, there is bound to be someone who knows the way to the toll bridge.
Distance: the ride to Steyning as shown is about 6.5 miles. The return would presumably be about the same again.
Terrain: mainly bridleways with a bit of quiet road.
Lunch: No arrangements have been made – either bring it with you or find a pub in Steyning.

STOP PRESS: Just in case anyone wants to see the route in terms of “what3words waypoints”, the start, finish and intermediate points on this ride will be:

I certainly hope we will be “ending tummy wants” at some stage! Not sure about the shipyards though.

One Response to The Next Ride: Sunday July 24th

  1. Dave Churchill says:

I realise the start time might be subject to train delays.
As usual on all rides I am involved with, my number, 07940796934, is always available before and during the day in the event of queries so delays can be made known to me.
I shall be leaving home, 01273 41880, about 10.10 to get to the start.
Please remember main route is off road!
